Lindenstrauss was born on August 1, in Jerusalem and is the son of Prof. Joram Lindenstrauss, who also taught at the Einstein Institute and received the Israel Prize for his work. He earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics and physics in , his master's degree in mathematics in and his doctorate in mathematics in , all at Hebrew University.
